Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factors affecting ego integrity.

Methods: Participants were 154 female elderly who lives alone and over 65 years old from community senior citizen center in city B. Data were collected from December, 2012 to January, 2013 using the scales of measurements of ego integrity, life satisfaction, self-esteem, and self efficacy. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, pearson¡¯s correlation, and Multiple Stepwise Regression were used with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program to analyze the data.

Results: There was significant difference according to general characteristics academic ability, perceived health status, perceived economic status, monthly pocket money, family relationship, thought of pocket money, elderly problem, and owner of residence, There was strong positive correlation between self-esteem and ego integrity(r=.725, p<.001), and between life satisfaction index and ego integrity(r=.704, p<.001). self efficacy and ego integrity(r-=.673, p<.001). Self-esteem was the highest explanation owner(52.3%) and it combined with life satisfaction, self efficacy, and family relationship totally explained 67.9% of ego integrity.

Conclusion: Self-esteem was the most affecting factor to ego integrity, It is assumed that intervention program to improve self-esteem, self efficacy and life satisfaction in female elderly living alone to increase ego integrity is needed.
